Commercialization

Commercialization is the process which is connected with practical employment of R&D for the purpose of launch of new and modified products as well as services or processes which are aimed at gaining commercial effect. Usually, it is started where R&D is already finished and there is clearly specified product or service which has features and advantages that represent value for commercial consumers. Commercialization is done when the product is successfully launched, in general, when the break-even point is reached, i.e. sales’ profit exceeds operating costs. At that, commercialization can take three main forms:
- Launch of new business project for the purpose of technology commercial employment;
- License sale to operating business on technology employment;
- Technology exploitation by means of rendering services including technical consulting, analytical and expert services as well as research on contracts.

Centre for coordination of technology commercialization system  

The Centre executes the following function:
- assistance to R&D institutes and universities in establishment and launch of commercialization offices and defining potential project on commercialization;
- interaction between the Fund and R&D institutes and universities, existing infrastructure to support commercialization, business structures and innovation development institutes in the domain of innovation projects commercialization;
- methodological assistance in development of business conception as well as optimal strategy of projects promotion into the market jointly with applicants;
- rendering consulting services to R&D institutes in preparation of projects’ conception on commercialization assessment;
- commercialization infrastructure stuff consulting and training on law queries in the domain of protection of intellectual property;
- creation and management of data base on commercialized projects, patents, potential investors, R&D institutes and enterprises;
- involvement of local and foreign consultants and coordination of their work;
- conduct seminars and conferences which gather representatives of R&D institutes and business community;
- preparation of information materials on commercialized projects as well as for exhibitions and forums;
