National Innovation Fund JSC has become the first kazakh Fund which was called up to participate in establishment of venture investment institutes with domestic (Kazakhstan) and foreign capital that are aimed to invest funds into technological innovation business.

National Innovation Fund JSC is a partner of 4 local venture funds in Kazakhstan which were established jointly with local investors on the basis of public-private partnership, namely they are: Venture Fund ‘Centras’ JSC. Venture Fund ‘Delta Technology Fund’ JSC, High Technology Fund ‘Areket’ JSC and ‘Logycom perspective innovations’ JSC.

Prior to that, the Fund has been introduced as a partner in six Kazakhstan venture funds. In 2010, the Fund has successfully contracted out from ‘Advant’ and ‘Almaty Venture Capital’ venture funds with total profit equal to 58.2 bln. KZT. NIF takes 49% in Kazakhstan venture funds.  

Investment policy of venture funds is running to search and involve projects with export potential in perspective sectors. The aim of such cooperation is to develop innovation projects with high potential of future growth and possibility to produce economically profitable and in-demand goods by means of investing of the owned as well as attracted money to these projects on different stages of their development.  

Besides, the Fund is a partner of five leading foreign venture funds covering countries in Europe, USA, Israel and South-East Asia. They are Wellington Partners III Technology Fund L.P., ‘Central Asian Fund of support of small enterprises ‘CASEF, LLC’, Mayban Jaic Asian Fund, Venture fund Vertex III Fund L.P.  

Strategic goal of establishment of joint venture funds is to get access to advanced western technologies for the purpose of their next transfer to Kazakhstan. Establishment of joint venture funds is also a good opportunity to tap into leading technological companies of the world. The main principle of the Fund is to build an open system of knowledge, experience and technology exchange. Working with leading venture funds of the world we endeavour to attract not only financial capital of foreign investors but also to create an integral network of cooperation with hi-tech companies and to open new opportunities for Kazakhstan science.
